Whether we realize it or not, we all have a belief system ingrained in us that determines how we view everything around us. Every thought, every opinion, and every decision about everything is derived from our ‘Worldview’ – the way we view the world. There are absolutely no exceptions. Neutrality is not reality. In Matthew 12:30 the Lord says “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.”
We all make choices, or decisions, every day. We decide when to get out of bed. We decide what clothes to wear. We decide what to eat. We decide what words to use in conversation. We decide according to what we believe to be right or wrong.
But you may say “There are times I don’t decide anything. Sometimes I can’t determine what is right.” The truth is – there is actually no such thing as indecision. Suppose I am shopping for an automobile and I have the choice of purchasing either a red or a blue one. My three decisions would be 1) buy the red one, 2) buy the blue one, or 3) buy neither. Regardless of which I do, I have made a decision based on what I believe to be right. There is no indecision.
Every decision we ever make about anything will be determined by our belief, or view, of what the correct decision is. We justify our actions by what we believe to be right. I may be aware that it is against the law for me to steal. But if I believe that I can steal due to a particular circumstance (ie: hunger, lack of shelter, etc…), then according to my worldview (belief) my theft is justified. On the other hand, if I believe that God will provide for my needs (Philippians 4:19), then according to my worldview theft is wrong regardless of my circumstances.
A Christian (Christ-centered) worldview is based on the Word of God and encourages us to please God. A humanistic (man-centered) worldview denies God’s authority and encourages us to justify sin. To quote Ken Ham, the president of Answers In Genesis, “In secular education they begin with ‘Man determines truth.’ Therefore, that’s the foundation of their entire way of thinking in every way of life…If the textbooks don’t start with the Bible as foundational to their thinking, then they are secular in philosophy. If they don’t start from the Scripture, then they start with man’s opinions…When they threw the Bible, prayer, creation out of the public schools, claiming, ‘We’ve thrown religion out, now we’re neutral,’ they actually threw Christianity out and replaced it with an anti-God religion.” Remember, neutrality is not reality. We are either for Christ or against him. There is no middle ground.
At Imparting Wisdom Christian Academy, we believe in the Genesis account of creation as a direct act of God in six literal 24 hour days. The doctrines of Creator and Creation are foundational to the gospel of Jesus Christ because one’s belief about his origin will affect his philosophy of life. The humanistic worldview teaches that we are the product of random chance and that we evolved over millions of years. This philosophy, taken to its logical conclusion, teaches that there is no such thing as right or wrong – everything is relative. The humanistic worldview denies the existence of God, evil, and anything spiritual. If man’s opinion determines truth, then anything can be justified. As we all know, depending on circumstances, opinions can drastically change. Just look at how volatile opinion polls are during a presidential election year. One day a particular candidate leads the race. The very next day they may be behind. Can truth be determined by popular opinion?
According to Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, truth is defined as “Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been, or shall be.” Truth is constant. Truth cannot change, or else it is not truth. Scripture is clear that Jesus is the truth, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” – John 14:6. Scripture is also clear that our Lord does not change…“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and for ever.” – Hebrews 13:8, “For I am the LORD, I change not…” – Malachi 3:6a.
The late Chris Klicka, senior counsel of the Home School Legal Defense Association, once wrote: “Taking place at this moment is a major battle for our children’s minds. This is a philosophical battle which has significant spiritual ramifications. The battle for our children’s minds is being waged by those who have a Christian mindset (requiring the teaching of Scripture as the basis of all knowledge), and the humanists (who believe man is the measure of all things)…Education is never neutral. Someone’s values will be applied to each and every subject. Scripture…explains that all knowledge and wisdom comes from God. Knowledge owes its very existence to God. True knowledge, as a result, cannot be fully understood unless one looks through the lenses of Scripture. On the other hand, the humanist view of education, as we find in the modern public school system, holds that knowledge exists in its own right. According to the humanists, knowledge can be truly interpreted without reference to God and His constant involvement in all of history. The Humanist’s goal, as envisioned by many of the founders and present operators of the public school system, is to use education to manipulate and control masses of students. In light of these two battling philosophies, the reader needs to determine for himself which system of philosophy is consistently being taught in the public schools, and which system of philosophy is demanded of all believers to be applied to the education of their children.”
The mission of Imparting Wisdom Christian Academy is to provide a Christ-centered environment where students can grow academically and spiritually. By teaching a consistent Christian worldview, we will encourage all students to grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and we will emphasize the value of the eternal soul, the worth of the individual, and the love of God for all. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for each student to achieve academic excellence and to prepare them for a life of service to God and others, whether that be through full-time ministry or in the workplace. We firmly believe that our efforts to teach children to view the world through the lens of Scripture will result in the fulfilment of the promise of Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Their eternal destiny depends on it.
