K5 – 1st Grade Program

Mrs. Forbes is our K5 – 1st Grade Supervisor/Teacher.

Space in IWCA’s K5 – 1st grade is limited, and spots fill very quickly.  Once our space is full, applicants may be placed on our waiting list to be notified in case of an opening. ALL students entering K5 through 1st grade MUST take screening/placement tests prior to beginning school at IWCA as part of our admissions process. This helps ensure that each student is placed at the appropriate level within our curriculum.

K5 & 1st Grade “ABCs” Students – Attend school full-time (Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-2:45 p.m. ABCs Students will also be required to complete “Focus Friday” assignments at home each week.)

Our ABCs Students spend time reviewing basic skills, and have demonstrated a readiness for learning to read and/or are ready to build more independence and fluency in reading, writing, and math. Our ABCs Students enjoy fun character-building animal stories and songs along with individualized, mastery-based PACE work designed to prepare them for future school success. Bible stories and songs, Scripture memory work, and prayer are also integrated into every day at IWCA.

K5 & 1st Grade Tuition: $2,250 ($225/month)

K5 & 1st Grade Curriculum Fee: $275

• New students entering IWCA as 1st graders will be given the ABCs Post Test along with other assessments in reading and math to determine
appropriate curriculum placement.

Kindergarten Readiness at IWCA

In addition to meeting IWCA’s general admissions requirements, any student applying to our Kindergarten program for the 2026/2027 school year must meet the following acceptance requirements:

     1.    Must be at least 5 years old on or by August 27, 2026.

     2.    Must be fully potty-trained and able to take care of all toileting needs independently.

     3.    Must demonstrate developmental maturity and school readiness by completing and passing the ABCs with Ace & Christi Reading Readiness Pre-Test. This test is administered by an IWCA staff member one-on-one with each incoming Kindergarten applicant during the summer. Child MUST be capable of completing his/her scheduled test session independently, with a good attitude, and in full cooperation with our school staff. Child MUST successfully complete and pass the ABCs with Ace & Christi Reading Readiness Pre-Test with a minimum score of 80% to be considered for acceptance at IWCA for the 2026/2027 school year.

What to Know about the ABCs with Ace & Christi Reading Readiness Pre-Test:

IWCA will set up a summer testing appointment for each Kindergarten applicant. The child should arrive at school for this appointment well-rested and having eaten a healthful breakfast.

       ·       Testing can be expected to take roughly 30-45 minutes. Most children find their pre-Kindergarten testing appointment to be a fun and exciting experience!

     ·      To allow school staff to accurately assess each child for school readiness, parents/guardians are not permitted to be in the room with the child while testing is taking place.

     ·      Testing is completed in a one-on-one setting. The teacher will engage the child in a series of assessments to determine his/her readiness for IWCA’s Kindergarten program. Areas of assessment will include the following:

               o  ability to follow directions

               o  attention span

o  physical and emotional maturity

o  eye-hand coordination

o  listening skills

o  oral/verbal skills

o  pattern recognition

o  visual discrimination

o  auditory perception

o  fine motor skills

o  gross motor skills

o  basic counting

o  math reasoning

o  hand dominance

o  attitude toward school & learning

    ·      A child MUST pass the ABCs with Ace & Christi Reading Readiness Pre-Test with a minimum score of 80% to be considered for acceptance at IWCA for the 2026/2027 school year. Children who score 79% or below on the Pre-Test, who demonstrate developmental immaturity, or who display uncooperative/poor behavior during their scheduled Pre-Test session will NOT be eligible to enroll at IWCA for the 2026/2027 school year.
